Campus and Facilities Expansion
Advanced Medicine. Compassionate Care.
Hannibal Regional Hospital’s Expansion Project got underway in Spring 2007. At completion, the expansion project will add 37,000 square feet to the Hospital, more than 60,000 square feet in a new medical office building, and create many new jobs. The expected $22 million in construction costs and several million in equipment is being paid for by a combination of philanthropic support, hospital funds, and a pre-planned issue of hospital bonds. The expansion project will have a very positive economic impact on Hannibal and Northeast Missouri as well as enhancing patient care.
Phase I of the construction includes the future Emergency Services Department, Cardiovascular Institute, and Critical Decision Unit. The first phase will consist of site excavating, utility movements of the current electric and fire service water lines, and installation of fiber optic telephone and data cables supplying the hospital. It will also include the construction of a new helipad, emergency access drive, and relocation of mobile imaging technology. Temporary entrances will be constructed for access to the emergency department and hospital, and ambulances.
Along with building construction, two new parking lots will be constructed to the north and south of the hospital to meet the interim and future needs of patients, visitors, team members, and physicians. The completion of Phase I will prepare the site for full construction activities to begin on Emergency Services and Interventional Lab building additions.
During this period of construction the hospital is taking all the necessary steps to mitigate any potential disruptions to services and maintaining the safety of the site during construction. While internal and external processes will change, the preconstruction planning will hopefully lead to minimal inconveniences. If you have any questions or concerns during construction, please contact the Plant Operations office at 573-248-5390
Phase II is the construction of an entirely new Emergency Services Department. The new facility will quadruple the amount of space we allocate to care for emergency patients. Phase III will be the movement of equipment and staff into the new emergency area, and remodeling will begin in the old emergency space to create a Critical Decision Unit which will support new cardiac treatment services.
Construction of a Medical Office Building which is estimated to be completed in 2009 is also underway. This building will be connected to the Hospital and the new Emergency Services Department. The medical office building will house 60,000 square feet of medical offices, hospital offices, and multi-purpose space.
This hospital expansion project is a reflection of our dedication to providing the best healthcare possible and to enhancing the overall wellbeing of citizens of the region.
